What is a Pan Head Screw?
Screw types have several kinds of head styles. The different types of head styles serve a functional purpose and decorative look on screws. One of the most common head styles of a screw is the pan head. Pan head screws are non-countersunk heads that give full exposure to the head in the assembly. They secure the screw with the wide and flat bearing surface which is commonly used for the automotive industry such as motorcycle engines.
Pan head screws are usually installed in a range of applications that require a flat bearing surface, less risk of getting the head caught on something, and oftentimes when a decorative fixing is needed.
What is the difference between a pan head screw and a round head screw?
A round-headed screw appears in a rounded or domed head which is visible or exposed to the surface application. Round Head Screws are commonly used in machinery and thin metal sheets. While pan-headed screws have a similar appearance to oval heads yet they possess rounded edges which expose the head to surface application, unlike countersunk screws. Another distinguishing feature of pan head screws is that they have a flat top and are generally found in self-tapping screws.
