Know the Elements of Properties on Bolts

Bolts are great mechanical devices that are widely used in today’s generation of innovative secured structures and products. Let’s get to know the types of bolt fasteners in character and features.

Type of Head

The head is the uppermost part of the bolt where the driving tool is mounted for installation and acts as the receiver of applied torque. It also bears the function to hold the body of the bolt.

Different types of bolts have different head types, including flat, binding, oval, truss, brazier, round, button, cheese, fillister, indented hexagon, pan washer, etc.

The design allows a specific function for each type. For example, the indented hexagon heads are designed to correspond to the standard dimension of wrench tools and have a depression on the head. 

Bolt Shank

The shank is the body of the bolts that comprise the external threads. It is responsible for the conversion of rotational force to drive the bolt in the materials forming a joint and connection. Threads also consist of sub-parts(grooves, pitch, major and minor diameter) that define their overall function.
